Cardona Bias Against Career Colleges

Department of Education Selective Harassment of Schools Denies Student Choice

Spanning the Obama and Biden-Harris administrations, the liberal U.S. Department of Education (DoEd) has waged a deep-rooted ideological vendetta against unconventional schools like career colleges, harming students and the schools that serve them. The biased treatment of these schools by the DoED, largely through its power over the student loan process, has resulted in lost educational opportunities as career colleges offer flexible schedules which are sought after by working parents, veterans, and minorities.

Thousands of Americans are losing out on the opportunity to earn a degree, faculty and school employees are losing their jobs, and millions of dollars in private business cuts in support of degree-based programs.

Thousands od Americans are losing out on the opportunity to earn a degree. Faculty and school employees are losing their jobs, cutting millions of dollars in private business in support of degree-based programs.

The tools and tactics advancing this biased agenda:

  1. Selective enforcement actions by biased Student Financial Aid Office of Enforcement almost exclusively to prosecute unconventional schools
  2. Weaponizing the Gainful Employment Rule (GER) gives the Education Department the discretion to deny student loans for degrees or certificates in career training programs
  3. Using the Borrower Defense to Repayment Rule (BDR) as a backdoor to free college
  4. Third-Party Servicer and Bundled Services Regulations attack private online learning companies

It’s time for Congress to demand answers from this administration and end these dangerous tactics by defunding the Enforcement Office, stepping up oversight at the DoED, and fixing FASFA. If left unchecked, the Department of Education will continue to wield unchecked executive authority at the peril of students across our nation.
